Funny or Die Goes Viral

Do you have a knack for making comedy videos that others find gut-bustingly hilarious? If so, the new Funny or Die video contest should be right up your alley. Titled “Let’s Go Viral,” the contest teams up Funny or Die with HBO’s ComedyFetish.com. To compete, simply submit your funniest Comedy Fetish themed amateur video to FunnyorDie.com. The general deadline for submissions is October 30, and the deadline for entrant videos is September 30. Winners will be chosen based on the funniest, top-rated and most viral videos.

The grand prize winner will receive the awesome opportunity to create an original short video with the Funny or Die team (which includes comedy titans Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Judd Apatow) in Los Angeles. The first runner-up will win a chance for a walk-on role in the winning video. And even if you don’t win, you’ll get great exposure for your video. So, what are you waiting for? “Go Viral” today!

MM took a few minutes with Funny or Die’s director of marketing, Patrick Starzan, to get to the bottom of this funny business.

Kyle Rupprecht (MM): What comedic elements do you think the winning video should possess? Are you ideally looking for videos that push the envelope, or simply those that are funny—regardless of their ambition?

Patrick Starzan (PS): I would say that we enjoy videos that push the envelope, but that’s not a requirement. The ideal is just something funny that makes us all laugh. Keep it simple and make something that you like.

MM: What’s the surest way for a moviemaker to take him or herself out of the running?

PS: I don’t think there is one thing that someone can do to get themselves out of the running. Except if you are mean to kittens. We are crazy for kittens.

MM: The winner gets the opportunity to make a video in L.A. with Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Judd Apatow. What will be the roles of these comedy titans on the winners’ video? Will they be doing cameos, or have a behind-the-scenes presence instead?

PS: The winner will be working directly with the FoD creative team and Will, Adam and Judd will be helping to produce the video.

MM: Do you plan on continuing the contest in the future?

PS: We think this can be a great franchise for FOD, so yes I believe we will

MM: Anything else to add?

PS: We are all very excited about this contest and look forward to working with the winner.
