FilmAid International will hold its second annual Power of Film Gala fundraising event on April 9th at Capitale in New York. The organization, which works to empower refugees around the world through film, will honor several prominent individuals making a difference in the philanthropic arena. Celebrity VIPs set to attend the gala include moviemaker Edward Burns and his wife, Christy Turlington.
Among the event’s honorees are Lethal Weapon star Danny Glover, an ambassador to the United Nations Development Programme, and moviemakers Andrea and Sean Fine, directors of the documentary War Dance, about three children living in a Ugandan refugee camp. Also to be honored are television journalist Lisa Ling and Sudanese refugee Valentino Achak Deng, subject of the bestselling Dave Eggers novel What Is The What.
Event organizers expect the Power of Film Gala to raise over $500,000 toward FilmAid International. Sponsors of the event include Miramax, Picturehouse, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Warner Bros.
