Devon Sawa Recreates Idle Hands Role, Celebrates Blink-182 Return

Devon Sawa did something special for the scores fans who turned up at Pennsylvania’s Mahoning Drive-In for a double feature of the Sawa films Idle Hands and Final Destination: He recorded a message in character as Anton, his stoner Idle Hands character, to let everybody know what he’s been up to all these years — and shout out Blink-182.

The Mahoning Drive-In is a very special place for cult film fans, as seen in the recent documentary At the Drive-In, which shows how die-hard fans turned the theater it into a weekend destination with dress-up screenings from the Wizard of Oz to Friday the 13th — and, this past weekend, a night of Double Devon. How could he not record a special message as Anton?

“It’s been 20 years since my friends and I went on a journey and made a movie about my possessed hand with Jessica Alba and Seth Green and Elden Henson and Vivica Fox and Jack Noseworthy, and God, I miss them all,” says Anton, who is still smoking nutmeg and oregano even though weed is legal now.

Idle Hands, released in 1999, didn’t grab much money at the box office, but has become a beloved teen horror classic since. The film featured appearances by The Offspring and Blink-182’s Tom DeLonge, who played a Burger Jungle employee. Anton hasn’t forgotten him.

“Man, Blink-182 is back on tour — it’s such a great time to be alive!” he says.

Is it the Devon Sawaissance? No, because he hasn’t left. Sawa is now starring on the Chucky TV series, and also made a memorable guest appearance on the latest season of HBO’s Hacks. He’s worked steadily since his breakthrough in 1999’s Idle Hands and follow-up hit, 2000’s Final Destination. He also sealed a place in history as Stan himself in the video for Eminem’s “Stan,” the song that made “stan” a thing. We stan for Devon Sawa making this video, which you can watch here or below.
