Actors Danny Glover and Michael Keaton will receive Maverick Spirit Awards from film institute Cinequest next month. Batman star Keaton will receive his award on March 1; producer-actress Jennifer Siebel will then moderate a discussion with the actor. Glover will receive his award on March 8, to be followed by a screening of a film of Glover’s choice and conversation with the Lethal Weapon star. All events will take place in San Jose, California.

According to Cinequest, the prolific Glover “exemplifies the essence of a Maverick artist driven by passion and dedication to embody every role on and off the stage.” With four Primetime Emmy nominations and five NAACP Image Awards for his acting, Glover has also produced and directed several feature and made-for-TV movies. Glover was named a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN in 1998.

Keaton broke out in the eighties with memorable roles in Night Shift, Mr. Mom and Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice. Keaton and Burton teamed up again for the smashes Batman and Batman Returns. Keaton has portrayed several impressive character roles in recent years, in such films as Jackie Brown and the 2007 TV miniseries “The Company.”

Cinequest seeks to empower movie Mavericks through their yearly film festival, by distributing innovative movies to fans via the Internet and DVD, and through education and mentoring programs.
