In Theaters Now: The Jonas Brothers, Crossing Over & Street Fighter

Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience
directed by Bruce Hendricks
Just in case the Jonas brothers haven’t invaded your life enough, director Hendricks intends to have them pop out of the screen for the 12 year-old girl inside you just dying to reach out and touch them. Hendricks may be striving to film all Disney stars in 3D as this is his second effort in the genre. (His first was Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour). The movie stars Kevin, Joe and Nick as themselves.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li
directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak
Bartkowiak decided to follow up 2005’s Doom with another movie based on a video game (and the second one based on this particular video game). Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li follows the game’s most popular character as she embarks on a quest for justice. The game is loved by many, which can only mean that the movie itself will be reviled by all those hardcore devotees who can’t stand all of the changes made. Though most fans will probably see the movie just to see what “Smallville”’s Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk) looks like as the beloved Chun Li.

Crossing Over
directed by Wayne Kramer
From the writer-director of The Cooler comes a movie about the plight of immigrants in Los Angeles trying to achieve legal status. The much-buzzed about film has been garnering comparisons to Crash and Traffic, but it’s the drama behind the scenes that’s been the real hot topic. Everyone in the ensemble cast—which includes Harrison Ford, Ashley Judd, Ray Liotta and Jim Sturgess—is prominently featured in the trailer… except for Sean Penn, who is rumored to have wanted out of the film because of its portrayal of an Iranian character murdering his sister in an “honor killing.” (The National Iranian American Council successfully fought to have the storyline rewritten). Kramer, a naturalized citizen himself, finished filming the movie in 2007 and will finally get to see it open this week.
