Once the movie started shooting in Toronto, Harron filmed some scenes everyone knew the MPAA would object to. Chloe Sevigny recalls: “I remember us shooting things that were more extreme so they could have that in the film to take out, and being like, ‘Hmm, that’s cool, that’s good. That’s a good strategy.’ The ’90s were a constant battle with the censors, the ratings board was such a big thing then—or it was just the movies I was making.”
