Sacha Baron Cohen’s Brüno made it to the top of the box office this weekend with a $30 million opening in 2,756 theaters. While Cohen’s character creation defeated its predecessor, Borat, which grossed $26 million in its opening weekend, the 2007 blockbuster was originally released into only 837 theaters.

The flamboyant fashionista was followed closely by a lisping sloth, a wooly mammoth and a sabre tooth tiger. In the number two spot, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs came in strong with $28.5 million, bringing its two-weekend total to a little over $120.5 million.

In the third place was the action-packed Transformers sequel. Revenge of the Fallen, which grossed $24 million, bringing its total to an even $339 million.

Despite stars such as Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, Public Enemies lost nearly half of its audience. Michael Mann’s crime thriller arrived in fourth place, making a meager $14 million.

Odd couple Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds remain strong and steady, rounding out the top five with The Proposal. The comedy unexpectedly continues to attract an audience, proving that romantics still exist, pulling in $9.93 million.

This weekend audiences can look forward the much awaited return of their favorite sorcerer in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince; those with little interest in the dark arts can check out (500) Days of Summer in limited release.
