BIG Cinemas, the exhibition division of India’s Adlabs Films Limited, opened its first Big Cinemas-branded property in Illinois on Friday, May 29, in the town of Niles, just outside of Chicago.

Part of the largest multiplex chain in India with more than 400 theaters in play, Chicago’s BIG Cinemas-Golf Glen has a seating capacity of 950 for the five-screen multiplex, along with a 60-seat premium lounge, all with top-of-the-line seats spread across 26,549 square feet. The multiplex is digitally connected to Adlabs India, enabling a mix of Hollywood, Indian, Polish and Korean films to be transported on fiber optic cable within four to six hours. Along with the occasional screening of Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, Marathi and Punjabi films, world sports fans can enjoy stadium seating for live telecasts of cricket matches and other events.

BIG Cinemas-Golf Glen will also have a fully equipped bar and kitchen, serving South Asian cuisine which will be managed by India House, one of Chicago’s top award-winning restaurants.

“The Chicago launch is in keeping with our vision to establish a strong foothold for BIG Cinemas worldwide in markets which have an appetite for Indian cinema,” says Adlabs Films CEO, Anil Arjun. “BIG Cinemas has a significant presence in the U.S. with 170 screens and contributes 25 percent of the box office for Hindi films and over 65 percent for Tamil and Telugu films released in the U.S. This multiplex at Niles, Chicago is part of BIG Cinema’s strategy to actively promote and ensure better reach of Indian movies.”
