Big Sky Documentary Film Festival

Missoula, Montana / February 2020 / bigskyfilmfest.org / A, V, P

Big Sky draws documentary filmmakers from across the globe to the mountain town Missoula. In the most recent festival, 155 films (from 1,800 submissions) were screened over 10 days. The Big Sky Pitch, a public event, lets filmmakers display their pitch prowess for works to a jury of funders, distributors and commissioning editors. The Tribeca Film Institute IF/Then Shorts Pitch event focuses on work-in-progress shorts—with $25,000 in production funding at stake. Distributors have included Al Jazeera Witness, New York Times Op-Docs, PBS’s American Experience, and Atlantic Studios/ The Atlantic. World premieres include Smriti Mundhra and Sami Khan’s St. Louis Superman and Àlex Lora and Adán Aliaga’s El Cuarto Reino. Big Sky’s DocShop is a five-day industry event with workshops, master classes, and panels.
