directed by Ron Howard
PG-13: 138 minutes
Ron Howard’s adaptation of Dan Brown’s best-selling novel is an exciting adventure. Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) has been called to Rome again. This time it’s because the Pope has died, and before Cardinal Strauss (Armin Mueller-Stahl) can begin the process of choosing a successor, four hopefuls for the papacy have been kidnapped. Joined by Vittoria Vetra (Aylet Zurer), a biophysicist who has recently developed anti-matter, which has been stolen and threatens to blow up Vatican City, Langdon begins a search to preclude the disaster. First he must convince the Pope’s loyal assistant (Ewan McGregor) and the head of the Swiss Guard (Stellan Skarsgård) to allow him into the Vatican Archives. Then it’s a wild and treacherous chase through the streets of Rome and to many of the famous landmarks of the city. The abducted Cardinals are scheduled to be killed every hour, and the bomb is set to go off at midnight. It’s Langdon versus the clock. 138 min. (Slavin)
