8. It Could Have Been So Cringe

The Barbie movie could easily be cringe-level 100. But it’s not! At least, it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be. And that feels like a win. When it comes to the live-actionization of popular cartoons, it’s hit or miss. The live-action Scooby Doo movies were, in my opinion, incredible, but then again, I was a child when last I watched them. But the same could not be said for the live-action Powerpuff Girls, the pilot of which was rejected by The CW (it’s still in development, so it may get another chance). There’s always a big chance that humanoid cartoon characters could land firmly in the uncanny valley, like The Polar Express or Mike Myers’ The Cat in the Hat. Thankfully, it seems like there won’t be any weird CGI renderings in Barbie, but we won’t know for sure until it comes out.
