Arrival
Renner appears opposite Amy Adams and Forest Whitaker as a mathematician named Ian Donnelly in this Denis Villeneuve sci-fi epic. The film follows Adams’ character, a linguist named Louise Banks, who works with the military to communicate and decipher an alien language after 12 mysterious pods lands on earth. Renner is in the supporting role here, and it’s a brilliant performance.
