If you lived in the Los Angeles area in the 1980s — or even if you didn’t — you’ve probably heard of the infamous killer Richard Ramirez, also known as The Night Stalker. His reign of terror targeted all ages and genders from the young to the elderly, and involved breaking into homes, brutally raping and murdering victims, and scrawling satanic symbols on the walls. Sometimes after killing them, he would go into their refrigerators and help himself to whatever food was there, leaving discarded remnants, like banana peels, behind for the police to find. Highly recommend Netflix’s The Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer for a good, spooky watch. Here are some more disturbing details from the series if you’re curious.
