International Film & TV Finance Summit Takes Los Angeles

It’s a familiar scenario in the moviemaking industry: A producer has a great script but not the steep finances necessary to get the project off the ground. But there’s hope for producers looking to hone their business acumen, as Atlas Information Group hosts its eighth annual International Film & TV Finance Summit, to be held in Los Angeles on February 4-6 at the Intercontinental Hotel.

This year’s Summit offers experts in both production and finance, including independent producers, studio executives, commercial investment bankers and accounting advisers. Can’t-miss seminars include sessions on structuring financing plans for independent films, navigating new developments in tax incentives, attaching the right talent to make a project bankable and utilizing digital platforms for distributing media content in the home. The Summit will also offer case studies on financing projects with Spanish/Latino investors and on mounting successful co-productions, with Showtime’s series “The Tudors” as the example in point. Notable speakers include Laura Bickford, the Oscar-nominated producer of Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic, and entertainment lawyer Schuyler Moore, author of the comprehensive independent film financing guide The Biz.

Atlas Information Group’s Jaclyn Grunett says that the Summit’s speakers “will examine complex issues that arise in financing TV and film production by sharing technical knowledge and past experiences. If you’re in the film business, you can’t afford to miss this summit.”

Jaman Launches “Movie Channel for the World”

Jaman.com announced the availability of instantly streamed, HD-quality movies—for free.

With nothing more than a simple click, cineastes can watch one of 100 ad-supported titles from the online distributor's collection of more than 3,000 films at no cost. Alternatively, those viewers who are less inclined to "pay" for the free films by watching the ads can pay just $1.99 to watch them commercial-dree. “By offering a free streaming media service along with our current rental and ownership download options, we are anticipating the future of digital cinema," says Jaman founder and CEO, Gaurav Dhillon. "With streaming, we provide our community with a quality viewing experience that is free and for our advertisers, we deliver a unique audience and premium and targeted placement opportunities.”
