Great list. You forgot to mention reelclever.com but I guess they are still in Beta so maybe that does not count.

I’m a big fan of ScriptPIMP. Been using it since it was launched and use it for my little projects.

Comment by Ken Evans on 6/11/09 at 4:15 am

You forgot videocopilot.net , one of the best sites on the planet on how to achieve zero budget special effects that look the nuts!

Comment by Shadow And Act on 6/11/09 at 7:11 pm

I guess we were #51? :o) Oh well, maybe next year!

I’m surprised to see Joblo but no SlashFilm or Cinematical, or Latino Review. I guess they are all somewhat similar in style in content.

Comment by Civil Litigation on 6/12/09 at 10:49 am

I find RottenTomatoes is always good for getting critiques.

Comment by Slava Rubin on 6/12/09 at 11:57 pm

http://www.indiegogo.com provides tools for fundraising, promotion, and discovery to the film and media industry.  Anyone can showcase their work, mobilize their fans, and DIWO (Do-It-With-Others!).

Comment by Chris Thilk on 6/16/09 at 3:52 pm

Hey thanks for including MMM. That’s some nice company you’ve put me in.

Comment by David on 6/16/09 at 8:39 pm

I realize this isn’t the full article, but what is the list based on?

I’ll hit up Artful or John August for screenwriting, and a few of those other sites for info on eq and production techniques, but why would a filmmaker need to go to JoBlo or Movie Retriever?

Do I really need to read casting rumors or lists of the best horror films in order to make good movies?

Comment by David Kohner Zuckerman on 6/18/09 at 9:01 am

You forgot wwww.VirtualPitchFest.com

Comment by tom on 6/18/09 at 9:34 am

A great jumping point to discussion.  I agree that some of these lean toward movie-lovers, rather than makers (although most of us are both).  Indiewire, Truly Free Film, Filmmaker Magazine’s blog, and the Workbook Project are my daily feed.  cinematography.com is also excellent.

Comment by Jane Kosek on 6/18/09 at 11:59 am

I love Truly Free Film too. And of course, I try to help other filmmakers on my blog: allaboutindiefilmmaking.blogspot.com. Thanks for the list!

Comment by Weston on 6/20/09 at 1:19 pm

Great to see http://www.MakingOf.com on the list. They are still in beta and just launched; everyone on this list rocks!

Comment by Troy on 6/21/09 at 12:05 am

Bigstar.tv is awesome - I can’t believe they made this list!

At their site, you could win $1,000 for your short film and distribute your film online… They have lots of rare, international films..

Comment by Spotlight Nation on 6/21/09 at 12:30 am

Hey, I run a social networking community built by artists for artists to create, promote and support independent filmmaking.

Where’s Withoutabox.com? Film festivals too often represent the only “theatrical release” an indie movie’s going to get and Withoutabox is a great tool in figuring out your festival strategy… and of course applying to festivals.

Comment by MissEmmy on 7/08/09 at 1:38 pm

Withoutabox.com should definitely be on there.

Comment by rrrbert on 7/19/09 at 3:49 pm

I agree. Withoutabox.com is a fantastic site. But I think this is really a great list. Thanks!

very nice list - one more site to include could be http://www.reelport.com. Its a plattform to submit films to international film festivals very easily.

Comment by Tim on 7/20/09 at 11:17 pm

You guys are right.  Withoutabox.com must be in the list.  Moreover, this is such a great list.

Comment by trainee on 7/21/09 at 1:44 am

For information purposes I use the mandy-webpage and kemps a lot

mandy = Mandy’s International Film & Television Production Directory

kemps = international film, tv, video, commercial production resources handbook: film production services companies, technicians and crew.

This list of the 50 best websites for moviemakers. Congrats to a few of the obvious favorites..It looked really fun to do surf on the best list…

Comment by Andrew on 8/04/09 at 11:30 pm

Withoutabox? Portable Film Festival? Vimeo? How can those be omitted? What “kind” of resources for filmmakers are we talking here?

Comment by Gael Chandler on 9/17/09 at 8:35 pm

Please visit my website http://www.joyoffilmediting.com & consider adding it to your list. Site’s primary purposes are to connect people to my books and blog where I hope to create a community of editors and people interested in editing. Site has a unique feature – Cut of the Month – where I use frames from familiar shows and movies to illustrate types of cuts and how they work in the show. Site also has free downloads for film teachers and filmmakers as well as a free Resource section and an extensive editing Glossary.

Comment by Gautam on 10/13/09 at 6:08 am

Please visit my website http://www.Desitara.com & consider adding it to your list. Site’s primary purposes are to provide Talented people an online platform to showcase their talent and give them a break in all top industries, we will be coming up with online contests as well time to time which covers all the talent sections.

I like some of the links, but am baffled by some of the suggestions. Why would a site like Entertainment Earth be listed for film makers?

Comment by Peter Sanchez Jr. on 11/04/09 at 2:59 am

Some other sites that should be on the list for good production:

AICP.com - a great resource for commercials. Provides Great contact information to production companies, directorial rosters, etc. Useful site.

MyProductionGuide.com - my most used site when I need to budget a commercial for a foreign or out-of-state location. Provides all budgeting costs/fringes/etc. and they are street prices. Also - it informs on what is and what is not available regarding equipment and services for that location. Very Cool site.

Comment by David on 11/17/09 at 9:07 pm

I would also mention castingcallsearch.com.  Totally free site for auditions and casting calls.  Automatic submission for auditions and very few ads.  Excellent tool for actors, models, musicians and dancers looking for work.

Comment by David on 11/17/09 at 9:08 pm

castingcallsearch.com also provides production jobs.

Comment by Clarissa on 11/18/09 at 1:44 pm

BIGSTAR.tv is the best! love that site! They have so many great movies and lots of contests! check it out....www.bigstar.tv

My personal favorites are: IMDb.com and Filmmaking.net, as they offer exhaustive information like cast, story, reviews on popular movies, as well as, quick tips on how to make similar ones on your own.

Comment by Bernard on 1/04/10 at 6:03 pm

I like Filmmaker Magazine’s blog, good mix of film, business and fun stuff. http://www.filmmakermagazine.com/blog.  HammerToNail has good reviews. http://www.hammertonail.com

Comment by FLiXER on 5/11/10 at 12:34 pm

Time for a new list! FLiXER is new and designed just for low-budget (under 1 million) film-makers to find resources and like minded individuals nearby. http://flixer.com.

Too many books and websites sell the dream without informing aspiring “filmmakers” (cast and crew) about the realities.

I’m curious what that list is based on given that http://www.realfilmcareer.com isn’t listed nor is the EXCELLENT site for aspiring Writers, http://www.wordplayer.com.

Comment by tommy96 on 12/03/10 at 12:02 am

Thanks for the list of websites. I will have to try and see if any of these will help me with the design and layout that I am wanting to do for a new website. I am excited to get in and start playing around with these different apps!

I run a Netwotrking and Video Tutorial site for filmmakers, Screenwriters and Directors called http://www.makeyouscene.com. It also features interviews as well so if there are any filmmakers or screenwriters who would like to be featured or interviewed-let me know!

Actually parents themselves have to be fitness conscious to make an effort like this. Parents are role models for kids and they tend to inherit a lot of things from them.
