There’s No Doubt that Award Season is on its WayYou know its Oscar season proper when a new trailer is released featuring unsettling subject matter (in this case alleged child abuse by a priest), two acting legends (Philip Seymour Hoffman and Meryl Streep), a score by Howard Shore and everyone's favorite real-life Disney princess (Amy Adams). The name of the film is Doubt and the trailer features all the thespian muscle-flexing you would expect from Streep and Hoffman, which easily categorizes this one as a must-see. Alan Ball Courts Controversy with TowelheadBy deciding to stick with the brash title of the novel upon which it's based, the moviemakers behind Towelhead grabbed people's attention and have yet to let go. The movie, which will get a limited release this Friday, September 12, 2008, and a wider release September 26, stars newcomer Summer Bishil as Jasira Maroun, a 13-year-old Arab-American struggling with both the overbearing parenting of her father and the sexual advances of her much-older neighbor (played here by a supremely scummy Aaron Eckhart). Check out the trailer, which oscillates from humor to heartbreak and back again. September 10th, 2008 |

Harry Potter Gets Darker (And Delayed)By now the news has been reported far and wide (as any Harry Potter news is wont to do) that the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie will be seeing a July 2009 release date instead of its originally scheduled November 2008 date. After watching this trailer, the delay becomes even more unfortunate as it looks like this will be the film that transports the franchise from the family-fantasy genre to the more adult horror-fantasy realm. There's really some Shining-level creepy kid action going on here. August 27th, 2008 |
