Celebrate NYC’s Role in Movie History During Oscar Week

From gritty crime dramas to screwball romantic comedies, New York City has played a prominent role as the location for many great, Oscar-winning movies. So why not celebrate it? From March 1 - 7, NYC & Company, New York City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, is encouraging both native New Yorkers and visitors alike to celebrate the Big Apple’s role in movie history during a week of Oscar-related activities and programming. The week will culminate in an exclusive reception and live broadcast viewing of the Oscars at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall.

“New York City has been the backdrop for countless Academy Award-winning films and yet there’s never been a better opportunity for residents and visitors to formally celebrate the unique connection the city has to film,” said Karen Sortito, senior vice president of Entertainment for NYC & Company. “We encourage New Yorkers and visitors to participate in the week’s activities and buy tickets to the Oscars screening on March 7 at Alice Tully Hall.”

Other events during the week include a marathon screening of Oscar-winning, New York-set films held by the Film Society of Lincoln Center, a chance to hold and be photographed with an authentic Oscar statuette (the trophy Judy Garland won in 1940) and a three-hour guided bus tour of classic NYC movie locations from the 1950s through the 1980s.
