I’m a student filmmaker in LA. I’m presently shooting a 15-20 minute dramatic narrative short, with the hope to submit it to film festivals around the country.

Are there any fests that cater to *well-crafted* student shorts?

Preferably, the submission deadline should be by end of Feb 2008? (Can’t finish it before then!)

Any comments/recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

For Immediate Release

The CineYouth Festival In Chicago Invites Young Filmmakers To Submit Their Work

Chicago, IL – February 1, 2008 – The CineYouth Festival (formerly known as the Future Filmmakers Festival) announces it’s nationwide call for entries for the 2008 Festival. Currently, the Festival is seeking submissions for films and videos of any genre from filmmakers who are 20 years old or younger. More information, including general guidelines and submission forms can be found on our website at http://www.chicagofilmfestival.com.

This year’s Festival will be a two-day event to be held June 20th – 21st, 2008, at the Columbia College campus in Chicago, IL. Filmmakers whose work is accepted into the festival will be invited to attend the Festival and watch their films with an audience as well as attend exciting workshops, meet in-the-know film professionals, and hang out with other young filmmakers from all over the country. The CineYouth Festival will conclude with an Awards Ceremony highlighting the winners from each category along with a Best of the Festival film selection. The 2008 Festival will award over $1,000 in prize money along with multiple non-cash prizes to films screened at the Festival. Film screenings, workshops and other events will be open to the general public.

Cinema/Chicago, the presenting organization of the Chicago International Film Festival, organizes and facilitates this event annually, encouraging young filmmakers to express themselves and explore the endless possibilities of film-making.

In response to the growth of the event, Festival Administrator Charlotte King concludes “The submissions we saw last year from young filmmakers were exciting, innovative and on par with many short films I’ve seen from seasoned professionals. Youth Media is rapidly growing as the technology gets easier to use and cheaper to access. We are looking forward to seeing more moving image work by young people from all across the country.”

The postmark deadline for entering the Festival is April 1st, 2008.

Sponsors for the 2008 Festival include Columbia College Chicago, Giordano’s Pizza.

Hi there saw your post.  If you are looking for film festivals I recommend a few different places.  First of all Wikipedia is a good resource just search for festivals and then you can look at other ones listed under that broad term.  I would also try your local college library.  Actually have very large directories of all of these types of festivals around the country and world.  You also might want to try the IMDB or Film Festival.
