I am a somewhat recent film grad who is looking for work in film production, preferrably film instead of television. My school wasn’t much help with getting me work after graduation. So I travelled and worked for a few years in Europe and Costa Rica. Just wanted to do some thinking and try and decide what I wanted to make a career out of. I decided I want to pursue working in film production and see if its something I would like to continue. What is the best place to try and find work? At first I was thinking LA or New York obviously, but not I’m not sure thats true. A listing just came out ranking the best places to shoot movies and LA wasn’t even on there and Austin was number one. I’m sure LA is still one of the top spots, its probably just because of the writers strike and everything. I know I could work anywhere if I wanted to work in television. I could work for any local news station but I want to work on films. And this definitely limits the places down. So for someone trying to get their foot in the door, where is the best city to try and start this? Also any ideas where to start looking for jobs? It seems like I’ve tried everything including: craigslist, mandy, productionhub, entertainmentcareers.net and haven’t had much luck. Any ideas where is better......LA, NY, Austin....or somewhere else

Hey Jeff - As far as I know, LA is still the place to be for industry jobs.  The strike can’t last forever, and the film industry infrastructure in LA is still many dozens of times larger than an any other city I can think of, other than maybe Bombay.  :) I could totally be wrong, though.

Come on out and join the fray!
