For me it’s Mann’s Heat. Great story, fantastic acting, beautiful music and imagery, amazingly precise and tactical gun battles. The characters are compelling, and McCauley and Hanna are the only people who understand each other… and they’re on totally opposite sides. It’s not even so much about the crime but the humanity that compels the story.

The Vanishing. The original, of course. Part of it is that I relate so much to the villian, which is both terrifying and relieving (because at least I’m not the only person who thinks like that). And I love that both the protagonist and the antagonist are complete psychos. And I love movies about obsession.

I tend to have a top five rather than a favorite.  And even that fluctuates.  But if I have to pick just one, I’d say “Lawrence of Arabia” just for the sheer filmmaking genius at work in it.  That and Maurice Jarre’s incredible score…

And in case you’re wondering, here’s the top five:

Lawrence of Arabia
The Godfather
Sunset Blvd.
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Singin in the Rain

Silence of the Lambs, everything about that film from the script to performances was just brilliant
