Student Film Festivals

I’m a student filmmaker in LA. I’m presently shooting a 15-20 minute dramatic narrative short, with the hope to submit it to film festivals around the country.

Are there any fests that cater to *well-crafted* student shorts?

Preferably, the submission deadline should be by end of Feb 2008? (Can’t finish it before then!)

Any comments/recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Love your film school? Wouldn’t be anywhere without it? Then here’s your chance to give it the recognition it deserves. Tell us, in 50 words or less, why your film school stands out from the rest and you could be entered to win a one-year subscription to MovieMaker and a DVD package worth over $200!

Each summer MovieMaker Magazine publishes its list of the world’s best film schools in the Guide to Film Education. This year we want to hear from the people who know these film schools best: Current students and alumni. Did you have a memorable professor? Pull an all-nighter in the editing room? Utilize the latest moviemaking equipment? Why should someone looking to study film choose your alma mater? Let us know what puts your film school ahead of all the others. If MovieMaker selects your response for publication, you will receive a free one year subscription to the magazine and be entered to win the grand prize DVD package worth over $200!

All entries must be received by April 25th to be considered for print. Please include your full name, contact information and year of graduation. Send all responses to schools at moviemaker dot com.

How do you deal with disappointments when you project is turned down?

Fortunately, as a student, I haven’t had any projects turned down yet--since all the ones I’ve done have been for me ;) But I am sure the day will come when not everything will go so smoothly. What steps do you follow when your project has been put out to dry?

Hello Everyone, I am looking for advice. I have recently discoverd that I really want to be in the film industry. Not in front of the cameras, but probably in post production, or film editing. The problem is, I have no background in this industry - basically starting from scratch. I wonder should I pursue this career goal given that I will soon be 34 years old? Should I bother with going to film school?

Only HONEST, and CONSTRUCTIVE advice is welcome.
Thanks

Anyone know of a good program that is short in length for film school?

Wondering if anyone knows of a decent short program. I am not looking for a degree and the realities of life require me to work a day job so going back to college is not an option. NYFA seemed like a good idea since it was only 8 weeks long which is something I could handle.
