Good morning everyone.

I have just received for my birthday a gorgeous HD camcorder - it has been a surprise, really - which now I have to learn how to use and exploits at its most. Above all, since I come from photography world, I’d need some SIMPLE software to put together trimmed movies, adding some sound and titles and getting my first home made movie. I’d like to experiment a bit since in July there’s my first niece christening and I’d like to be ready to realize something nice for my brother.

The camcorder I have is the SR12E by Sony. Again, it has never been my field and I have no idea at all on which programs I need and how to use them. A simple and free program is welcome too.
All the best, thanks in advance.

I’m going to be shooting a doc on my own dime, and I need to get a camera that can get the job done, but hopefully won’t cost me a ton. Any suggestions?

widescreen and handheld camera

The “New Wave” is noteworthy for the use of handheld cameras, but Truffaut’s “The Four Hundred Blows” was shot in a widescreen - Dyaliscope - process. Could Truffaut have used a handheld camera to shot a film in this process?

Thank you, in advance.

Video as film? Does it make a difference?

Seems the debate in other forums is whether you can make a cine-looking video. My question is, does it make a difference? Is it the look of the product or the story line, character developement, and acting? I realize production value goes a long way to catch the eye but I’ve seen basement and back yard vids that really hold my attention. Any opinions and examples?

Film or no film?

What are the perks of using film? I’ve only worked with little tapes I put in my generic camcorder but I’ve read that the professional “real-deal” stuff is best with film. What’s the difference, pros and cons, etc.?

Thanks,

I’ve been looking for a film school that provides globally competitive education to aspiring film makers since I’m one of them. Of course it must have a brand new state-of-the-art facilities and equipment[/url] like we could find in Hollywood. Actually I have checked various sites recently but I’m still not sure where to go to. Do you guys have more ideas about this stuff?
