Stony Brook Film Festival
http://stonybrookfilmfestival.com/The 13th Annual Stony Brook Film Festival brings 15,000 movie goers to Stony Brook University's Staller Center over ten days. With one of the largest screens on the circuit and with screenings attracting audiences of 1,000 people, the Stony Brook Film Festival is a favorite of filmmakers. Shorts and full-length films (features, documentaries, and animation) compete for prizes. There is no entry fee thanks to the Festival sponsors, among them, HBO, JetBlue, Village Voice, Teachers Federal Credit Union and Suffolk County. Greg Laemmle—relentless supporter of indie moviemakers—suggested I include moviemaker Tommy Wiseau in my self-distribution series. Turns out Wiseau's movie, The Room, made 10 years ago, has not only become a “cult” phenomenon, but a veritable lesson in paint-by-numbers, cult-by-design moviemaking. Wiseau was very entertaining and still, after all these years, passionate to tell the story of his movie and its conception.
