Austin Film Festival Honors Ron Howard’s Extraordinary Contributions

Hopefully Ron Howard’s shelf for awards is made out of hickory (the strongest wood), because he’s going to be adding yet another statue to his collection of Oscar, DGA, Golden Globe and Broadcast Film Critic Association awards.

On October 24, 2009, Howard will join Danny Boyle, Oliver Stone and Sydney Pollack as the latest recipient of the Extraordinary Contribution to Filmmaking Award, given by the Austin Film Festival.

Howard is known for being one of the most popular directors of this generation, so it comes to no surprise that he would receive an honor.

His list of acclaimed films is extensive, including Apollo 13, Ransom, A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man and Frost/Nixon, but he is also an award-winning producer of television shows, including “Arrested Development” and the “From the Earth to the Moon” miniseries.

Howard has more than 40 years of experience in acting, directing and producing, so the festival has also enlisted him as a featured speaker during its four-day conference, held October 22-25, 2009.
