Full Sail Announces Studios Gateway

Full Sail University held a groundbreaking for its new Full Sail Studios Gateway project on February 24th, unveiling the renderings of a 2.2 acre landmark project that includes a live performance venue, a studio complex which holds a state-of-the-art game production studio and flagship recording studio, an outdoor plaza courtyard, and an expansion to the on-campus professional film studio Backlot.

“Working with Full Sail on such projects as the Film Backlot, it is refreshing to see Full Sail using immersive, themed environments to complement and enhance the education of their students,” says Bill Nassal of the The Nassal Company, whose team of artisans and craftsmen will help create the realistic locales in the backlot. “This creative, outside of the box approach separates Full Sail from other institutions and provides an extraordinary value to the student experience.”

Located outside of Orlando, Florida, Full Sail University dubs itself one of the premier entertainment media universities in the world, having many graduates who go on to collect awards and accolades in every genre of media and gaming. This year 15 graduates worked on Oscar-winning films, including The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Dark Knight.

How is Full Sail University looked at in the industry?
I’m considering going to Full Sail University once I graduate high school. I’ve heard very mixed reviews about it though, which makes me doubt it’s as good as a college as I think it is. Does anyone here know how the university is looked at in the industry? Also, are the courses and teachers any good? I’m thinking about taking Show Production and Touring, and any information regarding those would be awesome.

A degree from Full Sail University costs almost $100,000 as of January 2010. That’s a lot of money for a degree that qualifies you for a below the line job. Consider spending you money elsewhere.
