Cars 2 Races to Box Office Victory

Pixar had its twelfth number one opening last weekend with Cars 2, the sequel to the studio’s 2006 hit. Despite its $68 million opening weekend gross, Cars 2 hasn’t gotten favorable reviews from most critics, which is a new experience for Pixar “Perfect Track Record” Animation Studios. Don’t worry, guys, we all have our bad days, and Brave looks like it’ll be great. Coming in second at the box office was Bad Teacher, which earned $31 million in its first weekend of release. Rounding out the top five was Green Lantern (weekend gross $18.3 million, total gross $89.3 million), Super 8 (weekend gross $12.1 million, total gross $95.1 million) and Mr. Popper’s Penguins (weekend gross $10.3 million, total gross $39.4 million).

Other new releases last weekend were Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop ($104,833), Turtle: The Incredible Journey ($72,444), A Better Life ($60,000), Passione ($17,294) and If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front ($14,100).

Next weekend sees even more anthropomorphised vehicles with the release of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, while fellow wide releases Larry Crowne and Monte Carlo seem to be missing out on the whole “talking cars” thing. Out in limited release will be Crime After Crime, Love Etc., The Perfect Host and Terri.

Critics, schmitics!  I took my wife and 2 sons to see Cars 2 this past Saturday and we all thought it was great.  The story, the characters, the animation, were all fantastic.  I’ve read where some people are trying to say that the movie wreaked of political agendas.  Well, I’m not buying it.  Not everything at the theater is politically motivated.  Michael Moore did NOT produce Cars 2, Lightning McQueen is the best race car ever, people make fun of mechanics until they need one, and good always triumphs in the end.  Thank you!

The movie was pretty good. Though I am not of the age that this movie is addressed it amused me very much. We saw some pretty funny stuff there combined with some V8 hot laps and some romance. I’d give it a 7.8 for everything and hope that Cars 3 will be even better.

I really loved Cars 2! I’ve went to it with my cousins ( 5 years old ) and they enjoyed too. Truly it is a movie with an age limit not really well defined and that is a good thing because you can be 35 and love the movie. My uncle ( 40 y old and works for an Used cars Cincinnati dealership ) enjoyed it as much as I did and he doesn’t really enjoy movies.

The movie was incredible and adults were still talking about this movie a few days after they have seen it. I was talking with a friend about a car donation and all of the sudden he started talking about Cars 2. This was a very good animation ( I should know, I work in this domain ) and I really hope that Pixar will come with a 3rd part.

Okay, you guys (moviemaker mods) deleted my comments that didn’t have anything wrong in them, but you let the people above me advertise Arabic websites?!?  Seriously?!?

Margie Burns,
Seriously?!?  Did you think Bugs Bunny was too violent when you were a kid?  If not, your argument is completely invalid.  If so, I’m sorry.

I couldn’t stand the first Cars and I couldn’t stand the sequel. I’m not much of an expert, I work at an RV for Sale Center, but I’m a great enough critic to say that both of the pictures lacked story and character build. I don’t understand why such a buzz around it.
