Box Office Goes on a Date Night

Tina Fey and Steve Carell are tops at the box office in Date Night (2010).
Date Night was the big movie this past weekend, ending Clash of the Titans‘ one-week stay at the top of the box office. The adult comedy, starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey, earned $27.1 million over the weekend, while Clash of the Titans was close behind at $26.8 million, bringing the latter’s total gross to $110.4 million. How to Train Your Dragon came in at number three with $25.3 million (total gross $113.8 million), while Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too? took the number four spot with $11 million (total gross $48.5 million) and The Last Song, starring Miley Cyrus, earned $10 million (total gross $42.4 million), enough to earn it spot number five.
Another new release aside from Date Night was Letters to God, which earned $1.1 million. The thriller After.Life, starring Liam Neeson and Christina Ricci, earned $58,000. The Square, another thriller, earned $16,524. Women Without Men (not a thriller) earned $15,210.
Out next weekend are the highly-anticipated Kick-Ass, as well as the remake of British film Death at a Funeral. Out in limited release are Babies (the movie with the “Awww. . . that’s so cute” trailer featuring four babies in different parts of the world), The Joneses, The Perfect Game, Exit Through the Gift Shop and The Secret in Their Eyes, this year’s winner of the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar.
