Cloudy is King

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs remained in the top spot this weekend; the movie, based on the classic picture book, earned $24.6 million, bringing its total gross up to $60 million. New releases Surrogates and Fame took the second and third spots, respectively, though both have been getting lackluster reviews. The Informant! starring Matt Damon as, well, an informant, fell from number two to number four, with a total gross of $20.9 million. Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself rounded out the top five, with a total gross of $44.5 million.

Other new releases this weekend included the sci-fi thriller Pandorum, and, in limited release, I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, Capitalism: A Love Story, Coco Before Chanel and Brief Interviews with Hideous Men.

Challenging Cloudy for the number one spot next week are Ricky Gervais’ The Invention of Lying, Zombieland, Whip It, Capitalism: A Love Story (expanding to wide release), and the 3-D re-release of Toy Story and Toy Story 2.
