Avatar Makes an Impression With $73 Million

Avatar opened with an impressive $73 million over the weekend and outperformed the number two movie, The Princess and the Bride ($12.2 million) by more than $60 million. Avatar opened amid the first winter storm in the Northeast, and despite the inclement weather, the movie sold out in all IMAX theaters over the weekend, and came in third for a non-franchise movie opening weekend.

The Blind Side continues to perform well in the number three spot with $10 million. Did You Hear About the Morgans? opened at number four spot with  $7 million and The Twilight Saga: New Moon rounded at the top five with $4.3 million.

Next week, It’s Complicated, Sherlock Holmes, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel challenge Avatar at the box office, but it seems unlikely that Cameron’s film will fall from the top spot.

Princess and the Bride?  Are you referring to Disney’s Princess and the Frog?

I just can’t wait to see that picture. I heard that it is revolutionary only on visual side, but I don’t care. I need to see it!
