This is a historic day in movie history—Avatar finished the weekend out of the box office’s top five for the first time in its 13-week theatrical run. An influx of new releases pushed the sci-fi epic to number seven, while the top spot went to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Alice earned $62 million, bringing its total gross after two weeks to $208.6 million. The next three spots all went to new releases: Paul Greengrass’ Green Zone took spot number two, earning $14.5 million;
Jim Field Smith’s She’s Out of My League was number three, earning $9.6 million; and Allen Coulter’s Remember Me, starring Robert Pattinson, was in spot four, earning $8.2 million. The number five spot went to Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island ($8.1 million in its fourth weekend, for a total gross of $108 million), while new release Our Family Wedding was at spot number six, earning $7.6 million.
Out in limited release were Korean film Mother, directed by The Host’s Bong Joon-ho, and indie film The Exploding Girl starring Zoe Kazan. Mother earned $35,000 on six screens, while The Exploding Girl earned $6,000 on just one screen.
Next weekend’s releases include The Bounty Hunter, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Repo Men and The Runaways. Several films are out in limited release, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, City Island and mainstream mumblecore film Greenberg among them.

Who is silly enough to pay 12 bucks to go see an anti-American movie like Green Zone? Matt Damon is just a puppet for Universal, who’s owned by puppetmaster G.E.
I will not only avoid any future Matt Damon movies, I won’t buy G.E. either. I bought my new Whirlpool waterheater this weekend at Lowes, just to avoid the G.E. waterheater at Home Depot. Don’t just boycott the puppet, boycott the puppetmaster too!
