Wall-E: The Little Robot That Could

Looks like Hollywood has another summer box office hit on their hands with Pixar’s new film Wall-E. The lovable little robot stormed the box office this weekend, taking in $62.5 million in ticket sales. Falling into a surprisingly close second with just over $51 million was Angelina Jolie’s action-packed thriller Wanted, also starring James McAvoy and veteran Morgan Freeman.
Steve Carell’s Get Smart moved down to the number three spot, earning $20 million in its second week. Kung Fu Panda dropped to the fourth spot, taking in $11.7 million, while Edward Norton’s The Incredible Hulk earned a mere $9.2 million. Most disappointing, however, was Mike Myers’ comedy The Love Guru, which fell all the way down to the number six spot, taking in only $5.4 million.
Will Angelina Jolie and a heart-warming robot sustain their spots come July 4th weekend? Or can Will Smith’s superhero flick Hancock fly high? Find out on next Monday’s Top of the Box Office report.

Wall-E deserves an Oscar. Not a nomination, not an Oscar for best animated picture, but an Oscar for THE best picture of 2008. The box office dollar figures may not reflect the quality of the movie, but Wall-E is one of the best films produced in many a year. So touching and well executed, not a single boring minute. Just beautiful.

I was surprised at how touched i was by a mechanical character. This film truly deserves its success with the great story line that incorporates earth-awareness and appreciation for the human race.
