Adventures in Self-Releasing: Our Goals for Our Press Release

Things are really heating up. Only 13 days out now, so my postings might take on a little different look these next couple of weeks. But I will keep posting.

Today, I thought it might be interesting to share our latest press release to give you a real sense of how we’re trying to position the movie in the Shreveport-Bossier City area:

LOCAL FILM THE LAST LULLABY TO HAVE PREMIERE WEEKEND – MAY 1ST, 2ND & 3RD
SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER PREMIERE IS VITAL FOR LOCAL FILM’S SUCCESS

Shreveport, La. – Northwest Louisiana’s own independent film, The Last Lullaby, will have its premiere weekend May 1st, 2nd & 3rd at Regal Cinema in Louisiana Boardwalk. The film is truly “local,” having been financed, directed and filmed entirely in Shreveport, Bossier City and Minden. Director Jeffrey Goodman is hoping for a large turnout of local moviegoers during the premiere weekend to help gain the attention of regional and national exhibitors.

This locally-made film is a product of the entire community and as such Bossier Mayor Lo Walker and Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover will officially declare this weekend, May 1st to May 3rd, Jeffrey Goodman/The Last Lullaby weekend. Come be a part of this community event.

Those attending the premiere, May 1st, 2nd & 3rd, at Regal Cinemas Louisiana Boardwalk can expect extra perks for the price of a traditional movie ticket. After each screening moviegoers will have the opportunity to speak with the director, Jeffrey Goodman, and ask him about his experience making the film. Each attendee will also receive a complimentary bag of bounce-back coupons and other deals for Louisiana Boardwalk stores and restaurants. With extra deals at the price of a regular movie, tickets for The Last Lullaby are sure to sell out quickly.

Goodman has been working for the film’s distribution since the final cut was produced. He’s taken The Last Lullaby for screenings at more than 15 film festivals, including AFI Dallas International Film Festival, Cinequest Film Festival and the San Diego Film Festival. In preparation for the Shreveport-Bossier Premiere, Goodman has set up a number of Lullaby film networking events at local restaurants where he filmed. “He hopes that locals will come to enjoy the camaraderie and talk a little about The Last Lullaby.”

The Last Lullaby is an artistic thriller, featuring well-known actors Tom Sizemore (Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down) and Sasha Alexander ("NCIS," Yes Man). The film script was co-written by the creator of Road to Perdition. So, while financed by local people, shot entirely at area locations and directed by local Jeffrey Goodman, The Last Lullaby has all the qualities and attributes of a major Hollywood release. Come be a part of this community event, and be sure to purchase your tickets early (www.thelastlullaby.com) as they are expected to go quickly. Also, the newX-Men film is opening that weekend, so buying your ticket early will allow you to avoid what are sure to be very long lines at the box office.

After living in Los Angeles for seven years, Jeffrey Goodman returned to his hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana to direct The Last Lullaby. Co-written by the creator of Road to Perdition, and starring Tom Sizemore and Sasha Alexander, The Last Lullaby was filmed entirely in and around Shreveport and financed by 48 local investors.

Maybe their idea of creating real life stories and the way they actually present the movie are two factors which can be used by movie growers in choosing an independent film than famous ones.
