Producer Jeremy Thomas to Receive Coolidge Award
It’s all about producing at Coolidge Corner Theatre this year, as the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based institution announced Oscar-winning producer Jeremy Thomas as this year’s Coolidge Award recipient. First awarded to director Zhang Yimou (Hero, The House of Flying Daggers, Raise the Red Lantern) in 2004, the Coolidge Award recognizes one moviemaker annually whose work “advances the spirit of original and challenging cinema.” The theater has proven democratic in choosing its recipients, bestowing the accolade on moviemakers of all stripes, including cinematographer Vittorio Storaro, editor Thelma Schoonmaker and actress Meryl Streep.
In addition to receiving the actual award, Thomas will participate in all of this year’s related festivities, including tributes from colleagues and a panel discussion or master class on producing. Throughout late March and April, the theater will screen a number of films from his filmography, which dates back more than 30 years and includes famous collaborations with such acclaimed directors as Bernardo Bertolucci (The Last Emperor, The Sheltering Sky, Little Buddha), Nicolas Roeg (Insignificance, Bad Timing, Eureka), David Cronenberg (Naked Lunch, Crash) and Terry Gilliam (Tideland). In 1998 Thomas even took a seat in the director’s chair for All The Little Animals, starring John Hurt and Christian Bale.

Most presidential ratings I’ve seen have Coolidge in the mid to low twenties, but didn’t we have peace and prosperity and lower debt during his admin, and since he followed one of the worst presidents, Harding, why isn’t he given more credit?
