High School Musical 3 Takes Center Stage

High School Musical 3: Senior Year, starring tween heartthrob Zac Efron and his fellow Wildcats Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman, hit an expected high note at the box office this weekend, grossing an impressive $42 million. Coming in at number two was another anticipated movie, horror flick Saw V, earning $30.5 million. Last week’s champion, Mark Wahlberg’s Max Payne, fell to number three with $7.6 million, while Beverly Hills Chihuahua hung on at number four with $6.9 million. Rounding out the top five was the Edward Norton and Colin Farrell crime drama Pride and Glory, making $6.3 million. Next weekend marks the release of Halloween-related films The Haunting of Molly Hartley and Splinter, as well as the latest Kevin Smith comedy Zack and Miri Make a Porno, starring Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks. Will one of these movies be able to out-sing Disney idols? Return next week to the Top of the Box Office report to find out.
