Clint Eastwood Opens Big
Finally getting its wide release a month after hitting theaters, Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino topped the box office this weekend, pulling in $29 million and kicking that damn dog (Marley & Me, which was ousted into fourth place with an $11.3 million weekend) off his lawn. This marks the highest grossing opening weekend for any of Eastwood's movies and brings the movie's five-week total to $40 million.

Another weekend and another win for the dog. Marley & Me, the David Frankel-directed, Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston-starring family flick, netted $24.1 million over the weekend pushing it over the $100 million mark ($107 million, to be exact) in 11 days. Finishing the weekend in second with a $20.3 million weekend was Bedtime Stories, directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray) and starring Adam Sandler, Keri Russell, Guy Pearce and Russell Brand.

Marley & Me Enjoys a Record-Breaking Christmas
After enjoying a $14.7 million first day gross, the largest Christmas Day opening ever, Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston's family-friendly Marley & Me went on to win the weekend with $37 million and a four-day total of $51.7 million. Coming in second was the week's other PG release, Bedtime Stories, starring Adam Sandler, which brought in $28.1 million for the weekend and $38.6 million over four days.

Jim Carrey Takes Back the Box Office
The showdown of the two $20 million men ended with Rubberface out-earning the Fresh Prince by a little more than $2 million. Jim Carey's Yes Man, co-starring Zooey Deschanel and directed by Peyton Reed (Down with Love, The Break-Up), took in $18.2 million in its debut weekend, while Will Smith's Seven Pounds, co-starring Rosario Dawson, Woody Harrelson and Barry Pepper, finished its first weekend with $16 million.

A couple weeks after a massive Thanksgiving weekend, the box office continues to lumber along. The big "winner" this weekend was The Day the Earth Stood Still, starring Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, Kathy Bates, Jaden Smith and John Cleese, pulling in a paltry (for an event movie like this) $31 million in its first week. Four Christmases finished the weekend in second with $13.3 million, pushing its total gross up to $88 million and handily beating the new Christmas movie Nothing Like the Holidays.

Four Christmases Goes Back for Seconds
Without many enticing new options hitting theaters this past weekend, moviegoers stuck with what they knew. The Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn vehicle Four Christmases was victorious again, taking home $18.2 million in its second week, pushing this poorly reviewed Christmas comedy beyond the $70 million mark. Twilight and Bolt, each movie in its third week in release, pulled in $13.2 million and $9.7 million, respectively. These grosses place the teenage vampires just shy of an insane $140 million three-week total and the animated dog just south of $80 million.

Four Christmases Kicks Off the Holiday Season On Top
This Thanksgiving there was plenty to go around—both at the dinner table and the box office. The big winner of the weekend was the modestly reviewed Four Christmases, directed by Seth Gordon (King of Kong) and starring Reese Witherspoon, Vince Vaughn, Robert Duvall and Jon Voight. The season's first batch of holiday hijinx netted an estimated $31.7 million in Friday to Sunday grosses with an even more impressive five-day total of $46.7 million. Smash hit Twilight slipped to second place with a $26.4 million Friday to Sunday gross and a $39.5 million five-day total—a far cry from its $69.6 million opening weekend.

Highly anticipated vampire movie Twilight, starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, cast a shadow over the box office this past weekend, grossing $70.6 million—and making it one of the most successful independent films of all time. James Bond picture Quantum of Solace moved down to take second place with a respectable $27.4 million, while third place went to new animated movie Bolt, featuring the voices of Miley Cyrus and John Travolta, with $27 million.

Bond Beats Box Office Competition
Quantum of Solace, starring Daniel Craig in his reprisal as James Bond, hit its mark this past weekend, raking in an impressive $70.4 million—making it the biggest debut ever for a Bond movie. Dropping into second place was Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, voiced by Ben Stiller, Chris Rock and Jada Pinkett Smith, with $36.1 million. Trailing far behind was the Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott comedy Role Models at number three with $11.7 million, followed by teen sensation High School Musical 3: Senior Year at number four with $5.9 million. Rounding out the top five was Clint Eastwood's Changeling with $4.2 million.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is a Roaring Success
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, featuring the voices of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett Smith and Sacha Baron Cohen, was king of the jungle this past weekend, grossing an impressive $63.5 million. Trailing way behind at number two was the Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott comedy Role Models, with $19.2 million. Zac Efron and his fellow Wildcats from High School Musical 3: Senior Year were demoted to the number three spot, making $9.3 million. Following at number four was Clint Eastwood's Changeling, starring Angelina Jolie, which brought in $7.3 million. Kevin Smith's Zack and Miri Make a Porno rounded out the top five with $6.5 million.

Max Payne Murders the Competition
Video game adaptation Max Payne, starring Mark Wahlberg, dominated the box office this past weekend, grossing $18 million. Beverly Hills Chihuahua lost its top dog status, earning $11.2 million and slipping down to number two. New movie The Secret Life of Bees, with Dakota Fanning and Queen Latifah, debuted at number three with $11 million, while highly anticipated President Bush biopic W. came in at number four with $10.5 million. Rounding out the top five was Shia LaBeouf's Eagle Eye, still going strong in its fourth week in theaters and pulling in $7.3 million.

New Disney family film Beverly Hills Chihuahua found its way to the top this past weekend, grossing an impressive $29 million. Last weekend's box office-topper, Eagle Eye, took the number two spot with $17.7 million. Michael Cera comedy Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist claimed number three with a gross of $12 million while number four went to the romantic Nights in Rodanthe (last week's number two) with $7.4 million. Rounding out the top five was Ed Harris' critically acclaimed Western Appaloosa. The buzzed-about How To Lose Friends & Alienate People came in well below expectations, making only $1.4 million and barely hanging on at number 19.

Four new films took the top spots this past weekend: The Coen brothers' Burn After Reading reigned supreme, grossing $19.4 million. Tyler Perry's latest flick, The Family That Preys, was a close second with $18 million. Righteous Kill, the only non-comedy in the top four, came in third with $16.5 million, while number four went to remake The Women with $10 million. The Dark Knight was finally knocked out of the top five but managed to keep an impressive hold on the charts, making $4 million and coming in at number seven.

Tropic Thunder Holds Strong Over Labor Day Weekend
Despite competition from four new wide releases over the long holiday weekend, Ben Stiller’s Tropic Thunder managed to stay on top of the box office for its third straight weekend in a row, earning $14.3 million.
The new sci-fi clunker Babylon A.D., starring Vin Diesel, held the number two spot with a mediocre $12 million, putting it just ahead of The Dark Knight’s seventh weekend total of $11 million. The Dark Knight now becomes only the second movie in history to pass $500 million at the U.S. box office, doing so in just about half the time it took Titanic to reach that historic mark.
Rounding out the top five were the Anna Faris comedy The House Bunny with $10.2 million and the new Don Cheadle espionage thriller Traitor, which opened in fifth place with $10 million.

Tropic Thunder remained king of the box office for its second weekend in theaters, pulling in $16.1 million.
The number two and three spots both went to new films. The House Bunny, a ditzy comedy starring Anna Faris, came in a close second with $15.1 million, while Paul W.S. Anderson's action-thriller Death Race brought in $12.3 million.

Tropic Thunder Knocks Out The Dark Knight
The caped crusader has finally let down his guard. A new movie has taken over the number one spot: Ben Stiller’s new hit comedy, Tropic Thunder, which made just over $37 million since its Wednesday release. In its fifth weekend in theaters, for the first time, The Dark Knight came to reckon with the number two spot, taking in $16.79 million.
Claiming the number three spot was Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which is not only a new animated Star Wars feature, but also the pilot for an upcoming TV series. Mirrors, the new horror movie starring Kiefer Sutherland, took the number four spot with approximately $11.1 million. The Seth Rogen stoner comedy The Pineapple Express slipped down to a disappointing number five spot at the box office, taking in a mere $10 million in its second weekend.

Pineapple Express is No Match for The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight is unstoppable. The caped crusader topped the box office yet again for its fourth consecutive week, taking in just over $26 million this weekend and bringing its total gross to an approximate $441.5 million.
Pineapple Express, David Gordon Green's new stoner comedy starring Seth Rogen and James Franco, opened in the number two spot with $22.4 million this weekend, but reached a total of $40.5 million from its Wednesday release.

The joke is on every film to hit theaters. The Dark Knight kept its number one spot at the box office in its third consecutive weekend, taking in $43.8 million and bringing its total gross to just under $400 million. Brendan Fraser’s third film in The Mummy series, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, opened in the number two spot with much less than studio execs had hoped—totaling in with approximately $42.5 million.

The Dark Knight Is No Joke
It’s official: Batman has won out once again. The Dark Knight not only stole the number one spot at the box office once again in its second weekend, but also broke new records as being the only movie to reach the $300 million mark within just 10 days. Christopher Nolan’s superhero film took in about $75.6 million this weekend, bringing its current total gross more than $314 million.

Batman Flies High Over the Box Office
Not only did Batman fly high over Gotham City's skies this weekend, but he also smashed box office records all throughout the nation. Christopher Nolan's latest in the Caped Crusader franchise, The Dark Knight, starring Christian Bale as Gotham's Knight and the late Heath Ledger as his new psychotic villain, The Joker, broke all opening weekend box office records, grossing an estimated $155.3 million. The movie also stars Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Michael Caine.
