Details Magazine and Nehst Will Make Your Movie

While Details Magazine has always been more concerned with the finest in men’s style and fashion, their recently announced partnership with NEHST studios has them trading in what it takes to dress like a movie star with actually making movie stars. The partnership is calling upon Details readers to submit movie concepts with the ultimate opportunity of being made into a feature-length movie. The project, whose submission deadline is May 1, 2009, will allow all creative individuals to catch their big break and cut to the front of the moviemaking line with a geenlit movie. The chosen idea, which should be an innovative and developed concept of cultural relevance in addition to being related to the Details reader, will have undergone a vigorous evaluation process with production and filming commencing shortly thereafter.

Gotham Independent Film Awards Announced

IFP, the nation's oldest and largest organization of independent moviemakers, has announced the nominees for the 18th annual Gotham Independent Film Awards (formerly known as the Gotham Awards).

The awards are the first major honors of the film awards season and usually a sign of success to come. Past winners, such as Juno (2007), Half Nelson (2006) and Junebug (2005), have gone on to receive additional awards and Oscar nominations, which bodes well for this year’s 22 nominated films, including Jonathan Demme's Rachel Getting Married and Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona (both of which received a total of two nominations in the same categories: Best Ensemble Performance and Breakthrough Actor).

Notes from Movieland: 14: Sundance, 28: Hollywood High

I promised to write about Antonio (Tony) Manriquez a few blogs ago. He’s one of the cinematic child wonders currently coming up through the ranks. Though still pursuing his own moviemaking expression on some level, Tony, 28, now teaches other youngsters the magic of moviemaking. One of the reasons I wanted to write about Tony was his incredible passion for and knowledge of not only the craft of moviemaking, but the world of film.
